Detroit Electric SP:01 soon to enter production

The world of cars is continuously changing. Super cars become faster and faster, more amazing and most wanted. Competition between brands is more and more tight. Detroit Electric SP:01 is a new high performance electric sports car, that was globally presented at the Shanghai Motor Show last year.

The Detroit Electric SP:01 is named by many the fastest electric vehicle in the world. It is powered by a mid-mounted electric engine outputting 201 bhp (150 kW) and 225 Nm (166 lb-ft) of torque. It owns a carbon fiber body and has a lightweight 37 kWh battery pack which allows the 1,067 kg (2,354 lbs) vehicle to have a range of up to 306 km (190 miles). Charging the battery is done in about four hours. Its electric motor is linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox borrowed from the Lotus Elise except that the final two gears are deactivated. Future clients can also order the car with a 2-speed automatic transmission which was especially created for electric and hybrid vehicles.

The Detroit Electric SP:01 was planned to enter production last year in August, but after repeated delays, it seems it will come out in the last part of this year. The vehicle will be manufactured in Holland, but the officials hope a return in the Motor City, especially that an electric sedan is being planned for Michigan. Till, then, hopes aren’t great, as an announcement like this has already been done before.
