Renault Kwid close to production phase

The fact that people’s tastes when it comes to cars are very different and variable is something certain. And lately, many of them choose to buy a crossover and this way the crossover segment in the auto field is developing a lot. Some of the most important companies own at least a crossover in their car fleet. Renault is one of them, having a few successful crossovers. And specking of crossovers, do you remember the Renault Kwid concept? Well, it seems it will soon enter the production phase.

The Renault Kwid concept was introduced at Auto Expo in New Delhi, at the beginning of 2014. It was simply a concept back then, but now it seems that the French manufacturer highly considers of producing the small crossover and it is supposed to fill in a gap below the Captur. The production version will have around 4 meters. However, it will still be shorter by 120mm than the Clio inspired crossover.

The Renault Kwid will remain as the official name of the new vehicle. The car might feature a three-door layout for its rounded body shape featuring plastic cladding. The ride height will be increased and the vehicle will also be equipped with an underbody protection to provide a rugged appearance. The car will most likely be powered by small and efficient engines, including a 3-cylinder TCe turbocharged unit generating 90 PS (66 kW) and 135 Nm (100 lb-ft) or a naturally-aspirated version of the same engine named SCe developing 70 PS (51 kW) and 91 Nm (67 lb-ft). Of course that it will cost less than the Captur and it should enter sales by 2016.
