Cadillac prepares to fight the German brands

Founded more than one hundred years ago in Detroit, Cadillac was and still is the automotive expression of the American dream. It combines great performance, daring design and ultimate technology. And it surely takes into consideration its clients. The officials and engineers at Cadillac are preparing a small rear-wheel drive sedan to compete vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz CLA, the Audi A3 and the BMW 1-Series and 2-Series.

Although Cadillac wishes to launch a battle against the German brands, the future model will not adopt a front-wheel drive setting like the opponents, but it will rely on a RWD technology. It is quite possible that the new vehicle will use the GM Alpha platform that underpins the ATS and the CTS. The sub-ATS vehicle will be powered only by four-cylinder engines.

The new Cadillac lineup will include a 2.0-liter turbo unit and smaller and less-powerful engines to lower the model's base price. The normally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder that is Cadillac’s base engine now will likely be dropped. The luxurious vehicle will almost certainly be introduced in2016, so till then we’ll have more details.
