Jeep Wrangler will get an 8-speed automatic transmission

Remember the good old Jeep? Of course you do. Anyone recalls the Jeep as a brand of American automobiles that first started as a military vehicles manufacturer. Although it still keeps its main purpose, the company is also producing mass cars that are extremely desired by the army lovers or by the off-road keens. The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most successful models and it surely has a lot of fans.  Well, they will have to wait a bit more until they get to see the new generation Wrangler which is scheduled to be released in 2018.

Having more than two years to go until the new generation Jeep Wrangler sees the light, we can only be pleased with the little information the company offers every now and then. The latest news is that the new SUV will feature an eight-speed automatic transmission. The brand new vehicle will be available with a ZF-developed eight-speed automatic gearbox which will be used instead of the old-five speed box and it is supposed to reduce fuel consumption by more than nine percent. It's the same transmission used on the Ram 1500, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango.

The 2015 Jeep Wrangler equipped with the traditional five-speed auto returns 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. Apparently the officials from Jeep wanted to replace it with the eight-speed gearbox earlier than 2018 but the transmission is not compatible with the existing models of the Wrangler. The new Wrangles is supposed to receive an aluminum body and this means a cut in weight. Hopefully, we’ll have more details on the matter.
