Volkswagen Golf R reaches U.S.

The Volkswagen Golf is a compact car produced by the German manufacturer Volkswagen since 1974, marketed worldwide across seven generations, in various body configurations and under various nameplates. Historically, the Golf is Volkswagen's best-selling model and the world's second best-selling model, so it’s no wonder everyone is expecting new generations of the model. But for now we witness the introduction of the Volkswagen Golf R in America.

Volkswagen Golf R can be ordered starting 8th January. The first 500 models will be exactly the same. All of them will be covered in a Lapiz Blue Metallic exterior and will come equipped with bi-xenon headlights and a set of 19-inch Cadiz-style aluminum wheels with summer performance rubbers. There will also be available GPS navigation, a Fender audio system, Park Distance Control and a DCC adaptive damping system. The owners of these 500 vehicles will get a special VolkswagenDriver Gear R accessory kit that contains a serialized Volkswagen R watch, a serialized carbon fiber or stainless steel keychain and serialized VIN-specific certificate.

The Volkswagen Golf R is powered by a 2.0-liter TSI engine that outputs 292 bhp (217 kW) and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm) of torque. This works linked to a six-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system which will allow the hatchback to sprint from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds before reaching a maximum top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The price of a vehicle starts at $39,090 and you can already order it.
