Volvo XC90 ready to get Polestar treatment

Volvo and Polestar go hand by hand and create spectacular vehicles, where performance meets clever engineering and special design. The second generation of the Volvo XC90 will be submitted to a Polestar treatment in the following years.

The second generation Volvo XC90 will be powered by the D5 and T6 engines. Despite this, the two engines will not be on top of the range for the simple fact that they will be upgraded to produce an output between the one of the T6 and T8. Just to compare things, the Volvo T6 is powered by a turbocharged and supercharged gasoline engine generating 320 bhp (239 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) while the range-topping T8 plug-in hybrid has a combined output of 400 bhp (298 kW) and 472 lb-ft (640 Nm). Since Polestar is working on the D5 engine, you whould know that in its standard configuration the twin-turbodiesel motor outputs 225 bhp (168 kW) and 347 lb-ft (470 Nm).

The future Volvo XC90 Polestar will also feature an upgraded chassis that is meant to reduce body roll and increase grip while the sportier body will be strongly influenced by the R-Design variant. Those two upgraded engines will most likely sound more furious because Polestar might install a sound synthesizer to enable a throatier soundtrack. But time will tell exactly what Polestar has planned for this Volvo.
