The 1997 McLaren F1 GTR Longtail registers a 85 kg weight reduction, resulting in a final weight of 915 kg. The car is up to five seconds a lap faster due to its significant increases in downforce achieved by using a larger and more efficient rear wing with a longer nose and tail section. The car demonstrated its reliability at Le Mans where the F1 won the GT category and secured the second place overall.
The power output of the F1 GTR was reduced to 600 HP due to gandicap rules enforced by the GT Racing Series. A larger rear wing compensates this and thus, aerodynamics is improved. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 1996 F1 GTR finished the fourth overall.

Commemorating McLaren\s racing success at Le Mans, the LM version of the F1 comprises an aerodynamic kit that features a large rear wing from the F1 GTR together with side skirts and a dramatically-reduced curb weight.
