 McLaren Team founder dies, aged 73 Teddy Mayer, former McLaren Team Principal, sadly passed away on Friday 30th January at the age of 73. Mayer was there with Bruce McLaren at the team`s founding in 1963. Following McLaren`s demise, he took over as Team Principal in 1970 and guided Emerson Fittipaldi and James Hunt to championship wins in 1974 and 1976 respectively.
