Acura RSX Type S

The 2001 Acura RSX Type S boasts to be a sports coupe powered by an advanced engine featuring an intelligent valve control system, delivering high levels of fuel efficiency together with lowered exhaust emissions. All RSX models offer their enthusiasts exceptional economy ratings as they successfully meet more stringent LEV-II Low Emissions Vehicle standards. An improved version of the lightweight and compact all-aluminum in-line four-cylinder engine displacing 2.0-liters, powers the race-bred RSX Type-S, achieving an impressive 200 HP and a peak torque of 142 lb-ft at 6,000 rpm. The short shift throws for precise and efortless shifting are ensured by the all-new six-speed close-ratio manual transmission. The outstanding performance of the engine is given by the smart combination between the VTEC technology and the innovative camshaft phase control system. The RPM, camshaft and throttle position and exhaust condition, are monitored through a separate VTC electronic control unit. Increased valve overlap is provided by the i-VTEC which advances cam timing, thus obtaining an internal exhaust gas re-circulation effect. The idle smoothness of the engine is thus considerably improved, combining higher fuel efficiency with reduced exhaust emissions. The new exhaust system makes use of a stainless-steel, low heat-mass exhaust manifold and double-wall exhaust pipe in order to ensure a more efficient heat transfer to the catalyst for quicker converter light-off. Other enhancements of the engine offer the driver and passengers performance, efficiency and durability. Combining Acura`s long heritage in the production of more efficient engine technologies, the engine proves to be the latest thinking in VTEC technology.
