Opel Astra GTC

Boasting an expressive and dynamic design, the all-new Opel Astra GTC is scheduled for its international debut at the 2004 Paris Motor Show. It represents the most dramatic interpretation of the Astra form language, being the third unique model, following the five-door and station wagon. A choice of three CDTI and five gasoline common-rail diesel engines that deliver power outputs from 90 to 200 HP, will be available at market launch, all of them successfully meeting the Euro 4 emissions standard. The SAFETEC protection system ensures a high level of active and passive safety, based on the equipment and technology of the other Astra variants. Hans Demant, Chairman and Managing Director, Adam Opel AG and Vice President Engineering, GM Europe, stated that they had struggled to give the Astra GTC a unique appearance without affecting the brand's customary everyday driveability, addressing the customers who were seeking a car that was fun to drive and integrating an expressive design. Friedhelm Engler, Astra Chief Designer and Director, Design Integration, GM Europe, added that they had intensified the emotionality of the GTC's design compared to the other Astra models. A particularly taut profile is created by the angular rear side windows and the characteristic arched sloping roof, while the powerful shape of the body is accentuated by the sculpted, wide shoulders. In conjunction with automatic and Easytronic transmissions, gear shift points are modified for a sportier driving style. The car model is planned to hit the car markets in spring 2005.
