Audi R8 GT3 Race Version

Germans from Audi Sport have developed a racing sports car especially for customer use in the form of the powerful 500 horsepower plus GT3 version of the Audi R8. The model will be available starting autumn 2009. Actually, this R8 is the first production Audi that uses the name of a successful racing sport scar. The new model conforms to the production-based GT3 regulations allowing the car to be fielded in different national and international race series. The Audi R8 comes with the typical GT rear wheel drive because the GT3 regulations prohibit the use of four wheel drive. A comprehensive list of safety equipment guarantees the highest-level of passive safety. A modified front end and a large rear-wing generate the required down force for the race track. The new model was developed under the direction of Audi Sport. The first prototype successfully completed a roll-out in the hands of Audi factory in mid-August. The first test races were scheduled for the 2009 season and deliveries will start sometime the autumn of this coming year. All units are made by Audi Sport and the Quattro GmbH. This last one is also responsible for the production of the Audi R8 street version, but also Audi Hungaria Motor Kft. These are all the information available at the moment on the matter.
