In Monterey, California, every year different carmakers participate at an annually celebration. This year, Bugatti will be the main attraction, or at least this is what the carmaker wants us to believe. To be more precise, we are talking about the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, a model with a special and unique removable roof. Different modifications have been made to the complex structure of the model, adding a new dimension to this high-performance sports car. The engineers have offered new and innovative safety and equipment elements making it the fastest and most exciting roadster in the world. You will not have any problems recognizing it as the carmaker offered its higher windscreen, daytime running lights and of course, the lightweight, transparent polycarbonate roof. Removing the roof meant the load paths had to be completely redesigned to maintain the rigidity and crash safety of the vehicle and to offer extra protection from side impacts and rolling. In the end, the specialists have modified the structure of the monocoque reinforcing it around the side skirts and the transmission tunnel. The doors of the new Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport are made of carbon fiber and feature an integrated longitudinal beam. In case an accident takes place, this transfers the load from the A to the B-pillar spreading impact energy. This is not all. The two redesigned air intakes for the 16-cylinder mid-engine feature 10 cm wide carbon fiber elements to offer more protection in case the car rolls. A range of new equipment elements have been added to the interior. The engine enables the car to reach a top speed of 407 km/h. With the roof off, the model can reach 360 km/h. The model will be available starting March 2009 and the price was established at EUR1.4 million, excluding tax.
