German carmaker Audi presented the R8 seven years ago and ever since the specialists managed to keep it fresh with minor changes like an optional V10 and the sportier GT or even the Spyder. Now, the engineers decided it is time for more it is time for a complete make-over. Audi presented the 2013 R8 line-up with subtle styling changes, a new V10 plus and a 7-speed S-Tronic gearbox. Other highlights are the redesigned LED headlights and taillights that are now offered as standard on all Audi models. The list continues with a revised front bumper and grille, new circular tailpipes and a larger diffuser.
The new transmission uses two multi-plate clutches. Each clutch engages with two independent sub-transmissions and one at a time select gears. The result is smoother shifts. The good thing is that Audi still offers the 6-speed manual even though the car that features the S-Tronic is actually faster by three-tenths of a second on the 0 to 60 mph acceleration time. The Audi R8 V10 Plus features carbon fiber reinforced plastic used on the R8 GT.
Different elements like the front splitter, side blades, mirrors, rear diffuser and lining for the engine compartment were all made of lightweight material. When it comes to the engine, the 5.2-liter V10 was also improved and now it is capable of developing 550 horsepower and 398 lb. ft. of torque. For the European customers, Audi will offer the R8 this year, but the North American ones will have to wait a little more for more information regarding the availability or pricing.
Audi offers the R8 in two colors, Ibis White and Brilliant Red, in four metallic shades and with five pearl effect and also crystal effect. A matt effect color is available as an exclusive feature for the R8 V10 Plus.
