German carmaker BMW developed the i8 model and it will be available at the middle of 2013, but deliveries will only begin next year. The supercar will be a plug-in hybrid and now several details on the power-train were revealed. The electric motor will send the power to the front wheels developing 170 horsepower and the back ones will be powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine. This last one is capable of developing 223 BHP. The carmaker offered carbon fiber reinforced plastic to save weight. The car is able of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds so only 0.1 seconds slower than an M3. The carmaker expects to sell over 10.000 units per year. If they really manage to do so, well, we will have to wait and see.
