Tuning a car in a great manner needs a lot of experience and dedication. As there are lots of tuning firms on the market, they have to be competitive enough to resist. Hennessey is a tuning company which has some history background, but it is a controversial name when it comes down to the tuning packages it develops. This doesn’t stop them from trying, though. The team there has recently created the HPE700 tuning program for the McLaren MP4-12C.
If you saw a McLaren MP4-12C on the road after it has been tuned by Hennessey, you would probably think it has nothing out of the ordinary. And this is true. The model is almost the same as the production version. The only things that make the difference are some discrete Hennessey and HPE700 badges. The same thing holds true for the inside of the car, where the changes are almost nonexistent. The only new element is a small serial-numbered dash plaque.
Then where is the tuning, you could ask? Well, in the engine compartment, where Hennessey installed an optimized ECU, an updated intercooler, some dual air induction filters and a stainless steel exhaust system. All of these enable the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine to generate 704 bhp (525 kW) and 538 lb-ft (728 Nm) of torque. This means an increase of 88 bhp (65 kW) and 96 lb-ft (130 Nm) compared to the stock model. This way the McLaren sprints from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and does the quarter mile in 10.3 seconds at 137 mph (220 km/h).
