2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray fuel consumption review and pictures
According to different sources, the Corvette Stingrayis the most efficient sports car on the market. Its engine is capable of generating 455 horsepower and when it comes to fuel consumption, the EPA is 29 mpg. Actually it delivers 17 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The model is capable of setting benchmarks for modern performance cars by using technologies to deliver more performance and more miles per gallon.
Specialists expect more carmaker to follow its steps. To transfer the output to the road, the engineers have offered an all-new 7-speed manual transmission which is Eco-mode enables Active Fuel Management, which disables four of the cylinders during light engine loads for improved fuel economy. For the models equipped with the 6-speed automatic gearbox the Active Fuel Management is active in all drive modes until the driver engages the manual-shift mode using the steering-wheel paddles. Numbers in terms of fuel economy with this configuration will be released soon.
The Corvette Stingray receives power from a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 unit which can generate 460 horsepower in comparison to the regular version that generates 455 horsepower. Just for comparison, the Porsche 911 Carrera S delivers 400 horsepower and when it comes to fuel consumption, it reaches 27 mpg on the highway. Continuing the comparison, the Jaguar F-Type S offers 495 horsepower and 23 mpg on the highway and the Audi R8 V10 produces 510 horsepower and 19 mpg on the highway. In terms of sports cars, the Porsche Cayman offers 30 mpg and 275 horsepower and the BMW Z4 sDrive28 delivers 34 mpg and 241 horsepower output. The new Corvette will go on sale this next fall and a convertible version will follow also this year.
