The next generation Jeep SUV from Chrysler Group LLC was announced as a $1.7 billion investment, of which $500 million will be invested at the Toledo Assembly Complex. It is highly important as over 1,100 jobs will be created on second shift at the end of 2013 and thus the total employment at the complex will be brought to over 2,800. Chrysler Group Chairman and CEO, Sergio Marchionne, commented at the news celebration, that the announcement further demonstrated the special relationship shared by the City of Toledo and Chrysler. The addition of the jobs together with the investment will essentially contribute to the city's industrial and social development. Marchionne also expressed his special thanking to the Governor Kasich and Mayor Bell for working with them in order to make the business case for the investment. The $500 million investment is going to upgrade all the areas of the assembly plant and to expand the 260,000-square-foot of the existing shop. General Holiefield, Vice President and Director of the UAW Chrysler Department, added that the announcement continued the momentum experienced by the Chrysler Group over the previous 28 months and the company was continuing to invest in its facilities, to add jobs and to secure the future of their workforce as the workers received commitment in exchange for their contribution to the Company's remarkable turnaround. A significant progress was achieved by the company's announcement.
