Most vehicles leave the factory set up for an average driver's expectations and conditions. Tuning, on the other hand, has become a way to personalize the characteristics of a vehicle to the owner's preference. Cars may be altered to provide better fuel economy, produce more power, or to provide better handling. Tuned cars are built for the pleasure of owning and driving and there certainly are hundreds of tuning companies in the world that battle for a top position in the field. Minitune, as you surely have noticed, tunes MINI branded vehicles. The latest project is centered on the MINI Cooper S.
Minitune chose to work on the previous generation of MINI Cooper S. The small vehicle features a discreet body kit containing a front lip spoiler, aerodynamic side skirts and a new rear bumper with a faux diffuser. The vehicle is also equipped with a tailgate-mounted spoiler, Koni sports suspension and it has received a set of 18-inch Motec Nitro alloy wheels wrapped in Kumho rubbers.
Minitune also thought of upgrading the engine. Let’s see what they did. The turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine has been equipped with an optimized ECU, a high-performance intercooler and a stainless steel sports exhaust system. All these lead to a power boost. The engine develops 218 PS (160 kW) and 319 Nm (235 lb-ft) of torque which means an increase of 44 PS (32 kW) and 79 Nm (58 lb-ft) compared to the stock MINI Cooper. It’s not out of the ordinary, but it is something for the little hatchback which has become slightly more aggressive.
