Chrysler has revealed its new Dodge Durango HEMI and Chrysler Aspen HEMI hybrids. In Durango and Aspen models, the new hybrid power train has Chrysler`s V-8 5.7-liter HEMI, featuring also the carmaker`s Multi-Displacement System, shuting down half of the cylinders in the engine during low-load conditions like coasting or low-speed driving. Together, the electrical motor system and V-8 produce 385 horsepower.
"Combined with Chrysler's Multi-displacement System (MDS), our advanced two-mode hybrid technology immediately delivers a more than 25-percent fuel economy improvement to our full-size SUVs - and up to a 40-percent improvement in the city," said Frank Klegon, the product development chief at Chrysler.
The new hybrids will be in showrooms in the summer of next year.
